Courtney Fraser Psychotherapy
Education and Training for Pelvic Health Professionals
In my work as a therapist and as a doctoral student, I discovered that most pelvic floor physical therapists have not been exposed to biopsychosocial education and strategies for sexual dysfunction and pelvic pain disorders. Many clients I've I shared with PTs have experienced a range of mental and sexual health concerns, and through consultations with them I learned we did not always share the same language. To help fill this gap of understanding, I've developed a comprehensive training and consultation program for pelvic health professionals to offer in-depth education and treatment skills for sexuality and mental health concerns.

01
Basics of Psychotherapeutic Skills and Ethics in Practice
Participants will learn basic therapeutic skills to ethically navigate patient interactions with more relational success.
02
Sex Therapy 101: Basic Skills and Assessments
Participants will learn basic concepts in sexuality and sex therapy, along with appropriate skills and assessment tools that can be integrated into their practice.

03
Exploring Sexual Values, Attitudes and Beliefs
Modeled after Britton & Dunlap's (2017) work on sexual attitudes reassessment (SAR), pelvic health providers will participate in a two-day SAR to explore and challenge existing sexual values and beliefs. Group processing and activities will provide opportunities to integrate sex-positive treatment into their practices.
04
Male Sexuality
Participants will learn about concepts and concerns in human sexuality, with a focus on those unique to male sexuality.

05
Male Sexual Dysfunction
Participants will dive deeper into male sexuality, focusing on male sexual dysfunctions and the biopsychosocial factors that influence sexual dysfunction. Appropriate skills for sexual health will be offered for integration into pelvic care.
06
Anxiety and Mood Disorders
Participants will learn about diagnostic criteria and symptomology for a range of anxiety and mood disorders that may present in patients seeking pelvic health care. Appropriate treatment skills and strategies will be offered for integration into pelvic care.

07
Trauma and Personality Disorders
Participants will learn about diagnostic criteria and symptomology for a range of trauma-related concerns. Trauma-informed treatment policies, procedures, and strategies will be offered for integration into pelvic care.
08
Neurodivergence, Disordered Eating, and Body Dysmorphia
Participants will learn about neuro-affirming diagnostic criteria for a range of concerns affecting neurodivergent individuals, as well as for eating disorders and body dysmorphia. Participants will have the information and tools to develop a neuro-affirming practice, including policies, procedures, and treatment strategies.

09
Other Clinical Considerations When Working with Sexuality
Participants will learn about out-of-control sexual behaviors and how this framework differs from sex addiction and substance use disorders. Kink and BDSM will also be offered through a sex-positive lens so pelvic health providers can have an inclusive practice and understand the needs that may be unique to BDSM practitioners. Appropriate skills and strategies will be offered for integration into pelvic care.
Simulated Patient Labs
After each didactic course, an additional virtual simulated patient lab will be offered for "hands on" skill practice. Scenarios have been customized to ensure the knowledge presented can be integrated into patient interactions.

Ongoing Consultation
Participants are offered ongoing individual and group consultation with a licensed sex therapist to ensure they are appropriately using their knowledge and skills with patients in their pelvic health practice.
Consultation is offered throughout the year, and it is recommended to complete 30 hours while completing the course modules.

Course Schedule
The first cohort will be offered in the Spring of 2025! This course was designed to build upon itself with more advanced knowledge and skills. Participants will get the most out of this training course if they take each module sequentially.
If that format doesn't work for your schedule, it's also possible to take modules a la carte. However, Modules 1 and 2 are prerequisites for Modules 4-9. Module 3 can also be taken on it's own, though it is recommended to consider taking Modules 1 and 2 first, as well as waiting to take Modules 4-9 until completing Modules 1-3.
If you are interested in taking this course, please contact me for more information.
